Why we love it
Rich, sculptural and beautifully resolved, this handmade 18ct gold ring has the presence of a future heirloom. At its centre is a 0.88ct Australian sapphire in a deep teal-blue, cushion cut to reveal flashes of ocean blue as it moves through the light.
The sapphire is held within a smooth gold surround, balanced by Chris Sherwin’s distinctive bead-and-wire shoulder details and a substantial rounded band. Every angle feels considered - from the bold face-up view to the beautifully finished profile.
The stone was cut by acclaimed Australian facetor Paul Fenselau, making this ring especially meaningful within Chris’s body of work. It is a rare meeting of Australian material, exceptional cutting and traditional goldsmithing.

In Chris' words
I made this solitaire sapphire ring in 2024. It is a classic all yellow gold ring with a bead and wire shoulder decoration, set with a cushion cut 0.88ct teal/blue Australian sapphire.
What makes the ring special for me is the genuine Australian teal/blue cushion cut sapphire which was cut by master facetor, Paul Fenselau. Paul had been a student of mine both at RMIT and Melbourne Polytechnic. A qualified goldsmith, Paul was exploring more deeply into what the jewellery making profession offered him. He discovered the world of gem cutting and polishing. He became very accomplished and won numerous awards for his meticulous craftsmanship. I was most fortunate to have Paul cut quite a few gems for me over the years. He sadly passed away in 2019 at just 40 years of age. I have a very small collection of pieces that contain his special gems. The sapphire in this elegant ring is one of Paul’s creations.

We work closely with our jeweller, who has almost 50 years of experience and is also a qualified gemmologist.
Carat weights are estimates based on measurements taken in the setting unless otherwise stated. Precise weights can only be obtained from loose stones. Many of our diamonds are old cuts, which are often asymmetrical and not calibrated due to traditional hand-cutting techniques.
