A very special antique piece - we feel that it's our destiny to get it to a wonderful home that will love and appreciate it. This ring showcases a beautiful 0.25ct old mine cut diamond (SI1 clarity, F colour) in its black enamel shield centre. The enamel is in amazing condition! There are so many fantastic details to behold, such as lovely shoulders and a hand engraved inscription to the back of the head that indicates that this is a mourning piece. It is clearly a labour of love and so well made, beautiful from all angles. This is one of the oldest pieces we've ever had, all the way from 1844 - our Victorian finds are usually from the late Victorian period. Whether you're a seasoned collector or just feel connected to this little piece of history, we're excited for you to see this amazing piece in person.
Size: Q (US size 8.25)
Weight: 4.3g
Markings: Full English hallmarks for 18ct gold, London, 1844, monarch's head duty mark, S.C maker's mark, additional J date better (1844) on the outside of one shoulder. Inscribed "Jon..n Arnott Esq OB 20th Dec 1844 at 63" on back of head.
Condition: This piece should be worn lightly and with care. The claws on the diamond are holding it in well enough, but cannot be further secured without changing the look of the piece. The enamel is in beautiful condition on the head of the ring, and still quite visible on the shoulders considering the age of the piece. Any enamel piece should be worn with care.
Resizeable? Yes, by a few sizes only up or down

Before you buy
How do you authenticate your pieces?
We carefully assess every piece using our gemmological training, specialist tools, and industry experience. We are both studying toward the Graduate Gemmologist (GG) qualification with GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and have completed the Applied Jewelry Professional (AJP) and Graduate Diamonds (GD) qualifications.
We also work closely with our jeweller, who has almost 50 years of experience and is a qualified gemmologist.
Carat weights are estimates based on measurements taken in the setting unless otherwise stated. Precise weights can only be obtained from loose stones. Many of our diamonds are old cuts, which are often asymmetrical and not calibrated due to traditional hand-cutting techniques.
We aim to provide clear photos and videos from multiple angles to help you purchase with confidence.
